Bibliothiki News 2015-2016

Dear Archimedean Families,

Welcome back for another year full of learning and wonderful challenges! We hope to see you in the Bibliothiki (school library) soon.

The library volunteers will be updating the patron records the first few weeks of school. Please remember to sign and send in the Parent Authorization Form that your child will bring home the first week of school. For the first week or so the student may turn in the form to his or her homeroom teacher. After that, the form should be dropped off in the Bibliothiki.

As soon as we’re ready for circulation we will make an announcement via Archie and the hours of circulation will be posted at the entrance to the Bibliothiki.

Welcome to another year at Archimedean Schools!

Bibliothiki News

Welcome to another year at Archimedean Schools! Our school library, the Bibliothiki, started circulating books on November 3, 2010.  Parent volunteers, who provide 100% of all services, have worked hard to provide books that your children can enjoy and borrow. We have picture books, chapter books, fiction books, biographies, and a fantastic selection of non-fiction books.  We even have a small resource center for teachers and those students studying to take the SAT, AP exam, etc.

Once the library records have been updated with all the new student information for this school year, an Archie will go out informing you of when your students may check out books.  To expedite the process be sure to fill out and sign the Parent Authorization form and to return it either to your child’s homeroom teacher or to the Bibliothiki.  These forms typically go out at the beginning of the school year but will also be available at the circulation desk in the Bibliothiki during the year.  Students will only be able to use the reference materials and/or read the books in the Bibliothiki if this form is not on file in the Bibliothiki.  Once the Parent Authorization form is on file, Academy students are allowed to borrow one book at a time and Middle and Upper students may borrow two books at a time.

Also, keep in mind that you can check out our library collection from the comfort of your home.  To view our collection, go to the school website under School Operations and click on the tab marked Bibliothiki Library Catalog where you can perform a search.

At present we are not accepting book donations due to a lack of space on the existing bookshelves. Should you wish to make a monetary donation to the Bibliothiki please take it to Cynthia in the front office.  If you are available to assist in the Bibliothiki we need volunteers on a regular basis to help us keep the shelves dust free.  Please contact Mrs. Lowe or leave a message in the Bibliothiki.

Last year the library volunteers gave magazines to Academy students during Storybook Character Day and, working in conjunction with all three PTOs, the Bibliothiki also sponsored the Read Across America event honoring Dr. Seuss.  It was a huge success with decorations all over campus, a puppet show, and all classes getting Seuss fever!

We look forward to working again with your children this year.

Sincerely,

ARCHIMEDEAN SCHOOLS LIBRARY COMMITTEE

Welcome to another year at Archimedean Schools! Our school library, the Bibliothiki, started circulating books on November 3, 2010 and parent volunteers provide 100% of all services. These volunteers have worked hard to provide books that your children can enjoy and borrow. We have picture books, chapter books, fiction books, biographies, and a fantastic selection of non-fiction books.  We even have a small resource center for teachers and those students studying to take the SAT, AP exam, etc. and a small collection of magazines in our reference area.

If you wish your child to take advantage of the services we offer in the school library, please be sure to fill out and sign the Parent Authorization form and to return it to your child’s home room teacher.  These forms will be given out to students at the beginning of the school year but will also be available in the Bibliothiki during the year.  Without this form, students will only be able to use the reference materials and/or read the books in the Bibliothiki.  Elementary students are allowed to borrow one book at a time while Middle and High school students may borrow two books at a time.

Also, keep in mind that you can check out our library collection from the comfort of your home.  To view our collection, go to the school website under School Operations and click on the tab marked Bibliothiki Library Catalog.
When you’re on school grounds, stop by and visit the Bibliothiki.  Library volunteers are always happy to talk to parents and students.  Circulation hours will be posted on the doors of the Bibliothiki. We think you will appreciate all the hard work the library volunteers have done on behalf of your students.
Our goal is to continue to evaluate our current collection, keep cataloging the remaining books on hand, increase circulation each year, and to determine how we can best serve the school community in future years.  Last year the Bibliothiki sponsored the Read Across America event honoring Dr. Seuss.  Kindergarten and 1st Grade enjoyed it tremendously.  We are hoping to make this event a tradition here at Archimedean.
Archimedean is blessed with having parents who are always looking to donate books to the library.  However, we are already running out of space in the bookcases.  If you wish to donate to the library, check the Wish List posted inside the Bibliothiki and then contact Mrs. Lowe to make arrangements for receipt of the donated items. Should you wish to make a monetary donation to the Bibliothiki instead, please take it to Cynthia in the front office.

Sincerely,
